Mel Gabler with his Lord and Savior |
On December 17, 2004, the day after our November newsletter went into the mail announcing his 90th birthday on January 5, 2005, Mel Gabler fell at home and suffered a massive brain hemorrhage, from which doctors assured the family he could never recover. At about 4:30 PM two days later, soon after his sons signed consent forms to remove life support, Mel passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior. We laid him to rest three days before Christmas. His sons and their wives, my wife and I, and other friends are helping Norma through the aftermath, after 62 years of marriage. "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord… that they may rest from their labors; and their words do follow them." Mel would definitely want us to stress that he left staff and resources in place that will ever more effectively reform public school textbooks, affect publishers' sales, help Texas State Board of Education members, and assist concerned parents nationwide. We do value your interest in our ongoing work, to whose continuing impact even the prestige liberal media bears witness, as in their coverage of the definition of marriage in Health textbooks in November 2004. ~ Neal Frey, Senior textbook analyst |
